Fog - Carl Sandburg
The fog comes
on little cat feet.

It sits looking
over harbor and city
on silent haunchees
and then moves on.

Window - Carl Sandburg
Night from a railroad car window
Is a great, dark, soft thing
Broken across with slashes of light.

The Great Figure - William Carlos Williams

Among the rain
and lights
I saw the figure 5

moving

to gong clangs
siren howls
and wheels rumbling
through the dark city.

Richard Cory - Edwin Arlington Robinson

Whenver Richard Cory went down town,
We people on the pavement looked at him:
He was a gentleman from sole to crown,
Clean favored, and imperially slim.

And he was always quietly arrayed,
And he was always human when he talked;
But still he fluttered pulses when he said
“Good morning,”and he glittered when he walked.

And he was rich — yes, richer than a king—
And admirably schooled in every grace:
In fine, we thought that he was everything
To make us wish that we were in his place.

So on we worked, annd waited for the light,
And went without the meat, and cursed the bread;
And Richard Cory, one calm summer night,
Went home and put a bullet through his head.

from sole to crown - from the sole of the foot to the crown of the head
clean favored - very handsom
array - To dress in finery; adorn
flutter - To wave or flap rapidly in an irregular manner

The Road Not Taken - Robert Frost

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both.
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that passing there
Had worn them really about the same.

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be teeling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I —
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

diverge - To go or extend in different directions from a common point; branch out.
undergrowth - Low-growing plants, saplings, and shrubs beneath trees in a forest.
